Qi Gong, Emotions as energy and RAIN

The practice of Qi Gong benefits the physical and mental energies, another benefit is to be able to transform negative or stressful emotional energy to a state of calmness and relaxation. We at times are uncertain what to do with some emotions such as, anger, rage, fear or insecurity. When we become aware of them how can we use them to make our life more magical. “Emotions aren’t a material substance but a frequency of energy; change the energetic frequency and you change the emotion. This is what the Taoists describe as the practice of working with emotional energy, transforming stress (negative) into vitality (positive). Lee Holden.
Emotions contain sensations as I’ve learnt from past teachers and guides of Qi Gong, also from personal learning and practice. Emotions are mapped and held energetically in our bodies and mental levels.
Practicing Qi Gong can help clear emotions and bring more flow within the body and mind rather then holding and repressing them. Becoming aware of the tension in your body for example tight neck and shoulders or lower back. Bringing awareness, breath and gentle movement can help bring blood and circulation to these areas. As your moving mindfully along with breathing techniques as you deepen your practice you’ll see the magic of going within your own being to help bring more flow and less stress into your life.

Another mindfulness practice I’ve used in the past and occasionally bring it into my Qi Gong practice is Tara Brach’s practice of radical compassion called RAIN. The acronym RAIN is an easy-to-remember tool for practicing mindfulness and compassion.

  • R – Recognize what is happening
  • A – Allow the experience to be there, just as it is
  • I – Investigate with interest and care
  • N – Nurture with self-compassion

As the waves of life can become quite stressful and I feel the maps of tension increase in my body and mind these are a few practices I’ve used and still use to bring more awareness and mindfulness to the moment so I can bring relaxation and flow into my life.
